 HUNZA VALLEY 

Pakistan is famous for its geographical structure as it has mountains, rivers, deserts and fertile land. One of its most famous mountainous Valley is Hunza Valley which is in Gilgit. Hunza is located on the northern border of Pakistan which touches with the Xinjiang region of China. The capital of Hunza is Karimabad (previously known as Balti) and it is the most popular place in Hunza for tourists. Hunza valley is known for its beauty and the peoples of Hunza Valley are famous for their hospitality and friendliness. Hunza valley is 2435m above sea level and it is the best place to enjoy vacations. The best time to visit Hunza Valley is from April to October because from November to march roads are almost blocked with the snow. The Hunza Valley tour allows you to explore Khunjerab pass, silk route, Balti and Altit fort, Fairy Meadows, and the world's most famous mountains Nanga Parbat and Rakaposhi.

Places to visit in Hunza Valley 


There are many beautiful places in Hunza which captivate the eye. The following are some of the beautiful places that must be visited. 

  • Karimabad 

It is also known as Baltit the capital of Hunza. Karimabad was named after Prince Karim Aga Khan. It is on the west bank of the Hunza River. The town is steep and made up of stone walls. The village has antique works of stones of which houses, and streets are made. 


 

  •  Altit fort  

Above Karimabad in Hunza Valley there is a fort known as Altit Fort. It was the residence of the former prince for about 1100 years. This fort is now refurbished by Agha Khan Trust for culture, Historic, Cities support programmed and the Norway Government.  



  • Rakaposhi Peaks 

It is a part of Karakoram Mountain with range height 7788m. It has a massive mountain view all around Gilgit. 


  • Attabad Lake  

Attabad Lake is the most amazing and beautiful place in the Hunza Valley to visit. The crystal-clear water awes everyone who comes to the Karakoram massive mountains. Boating experience at Attabad Lake will be your best experience ever.  

 

 
 

Festivals and Events in Hunza  

 

Here's the list of some famous festivals celebrated in Hunza every year. 

  • Gianni Festival 21st June to 25th June 

This festival is basically celebrated in central and lower parts of Hunza valley with the usual enthusiasm. Main gatherings arranged at Altit and Aliabad villages. The locals perform rituals at central places and also perform traditional dance to local tunes. The most famous dish Dirum Pitti is prepared for the festival. 


  •  Spring Blossom Festival 

This festival is celebrated at spring fall from 20 March to 30 April. The locals and the tourists both enjoy the weather and festival. 

 

  •  Joshio Chilmjusht (14th-15th of May) 

This function is usually arranged to thank to God. This is arranged at the start of spring with new hopes and desires.
