GILGIT

 Gilgit is situated in Gilgit-Baltistan in the North region of Pakistan. It is a popular destination where many of the tourists visit throughout the year because of its natural beauty and proximity to several important mountain ranges, that are the Karakoram, Himalayas, and Hindu Kush. Some famous places to visit in Gilgit are:

1. Deosai National Park: 

This is a beautiful alpine national park located in the Karakoram Mountain range. It is also known as the home of wildlife, including the Brown Bears of Himalayas and the snow leopard.

2. Karakoram Highway: 

This is a popular tourist destination for its stunning views of the Karakoram Mountain range. The highway has a route from Gilgit to Kashgar in China and is one of the highest paved international roads in the world.

3. Altit Fort: 

This is an ancient fort located in the Hunza valley. Altit fort was built in the 11th century and offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.

4. Passu Cones: 

These are a group of distinctive mountain peaks located in the Hunza valley.



5. Rakaposhi Base Camp:

Rakaposhi is a mountain in the Karakoram range. This base camp is mainly for hikers where they can rest and enjoy there meal which offers beautiful views of the mountain and the surrounding area.

6. Naltar Valley: 

Situated about 40km from Gilgit, it is known for its beautiful pine forests and colorful lakes. It is a spot for hiking.

7. Fairy Meadows: 

Located about 50km from Gilgit, Fairy Meadows is a beautiful alpine meadow located at the base of the Nanga Parbat mountain. It is a popular spot for camping, hiking, and photography

 

 


 In food, Gilgit is known for its delicious traditional cuisine, which includes dishes such as:

Tsampa: A type of porridge made from roasted barley flour.

Yakhni: It is of lamb stew made with yogurt and spices.



Bura: A type of flatbread made from whole wheat flour.

and spices.

Mulberry Juice: A refreshing drink made from mulberries, which are native to the region.

Apricot Chutney: A sweet and tangy condiment made from apricots
