Attock Tourist Places to Visit in Attock, Pakistan, Asia Attock is a district located in the Punjab Province to the East of Pakistan, is an administrative centre for the Attock district located to the Northwest in Punjab Province on the banks of river Indus, at a distance of 425 Km from Lahore, the capital of Punjab Province.  The capital city Islamabad is around 95 Km to the East from the town of Attock.  The city of Peshawar is around 80 Km to the West and Rawalpindi around 85 Southeast.  The province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is to the North and also to the North West of Attock.

Akbar’s Fort: On the banks of Indus river in the Kala-Chitta hill ranges 30 Km to the South. Attock Khurd Railway Station: Victorian styled railway station of 1880s known for its engineering marvel is sited 15 Km to the Southwest. Kala Chitta MountainA Range: An adventurers place and are allowed to go on hunting spree with the permission of the army 30 Km to the South.

HISTORY

Attock is a place of great historic significance. Emperor Akbar the Great, the grandson of Babar, recognized the strategic importance of this area in 1581 and built the famous Attock Fort Complex. The fall of Mughal Empire in eighteenth century saw the rise of Sikhs in Punjab and Durrani Afghans to the West.

The city was initially named Campbellpore, also spelt Campbellpur, in 1908 in honour of Sir Colin Campbell. The name was changed to Attock in 1978, its original name, which literally means “Foot of the Mountain.”

The Battle of Attock (also known as the Battle of Chuch or the Battle of Haidru) took place on 13 July 1813 between the Sikh Empire and the Durrani Empire. The battle was the first significant Sikh victory over the Durranis.
